On April 27th, during a post-screening Q&A session for “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In” <九龍城寨之圍城> in Beijing, an audience member asked Louis Koo (古天樂) and Raymond Lam (林峯) to share their experiences on maintaining a good physique. Louis Koo advised everyone to exercise more, sleep more, and drink more water. “I eat one meal a day and I don’t eat rice,” he said. Raymond Lam mentioned that getting more sleep is impossible; they often shoot for fourteen to twenty hours a day, and with aerobic exercise, it’s hard to gain weight.
“Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In” is set in the 1980s in the notorious “no man’s land” of Kowloon Walled City, where gangs dominate and danger lurks. A young man who stumbles into the city while fleeing trouble unexpectedly finds brotherhood. Meanwhile, villains who have long coveted the walled city initiate a fierce battle to seize control, sparking a high-octane, blood-pumping defense of their home.
Director Soi Cheang (鄭保瑞) was praised by the audience for his ability to showcase men’s charm. He believes that actors inherently possess charm and that a director’s job is merely to find ways to bring out this charm and show it to the audience. In casting, the aura of the actors and their alignment with the characters is crucial. Louis Koo’s portrayal of “Tornado” in “Twilight of the Warriors” is an example of blending the character’s role with the actor’s personal charisma.
“Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In” has begun limited screenings and will officially release on May 1st.
